REFLECTION

May 2021

Reflection: Work

The pandemic has changed my learning experiences a lot. I used to rely upon face-to-face with the assistance of some technologies. However, the needs of using online tools to learn are rising because everyone is restricted to go to school these days. Even, for myself, I rely on online tools to maintain my language proficiency very often now. Due to the new learning environment, I am able to discover a lot of useful tools and platforms to learn languages. Apart from my recommendations on this website, I have found those are very convenient and new to me in fact. I realise the role of teachers is gradually changing from an educator to an instructor, which means that the internet has become our teacher as the abundant and accessible information are viral online. I can easily find a suitable and comfortable way to learn my target language without bothering anyone. It is handy for me to search and reach the content I want, in which I feel less stressed sitting in the traditional language classroom to learn from my teacher. Instead, I can recruit the teacher I like, for example, using iTalkie, to practice the language with a certain context as well. Even the price is even cheaper than spending on registering for a language course. For sure, I am not denying the advantages of attending face-to-face classes. However, technologies assist people to learn privately at any time in any places. There is no restricted curriculum to follow so that the learning progress becomes more transparent to me, which I can design and gather my own learning materials by myself. The learning time might be taking longer and it requires more determination and cognitions than taking classes outside, though I generally like more adapting technologies to learn on my own.
